Who can attend class? The beginner-intermediate class is open to the public. You must be at least 17 years old to attend this class. You must also have a genuine and sincere interest, as well as a healthy attitude towards Kung Fu and learning. We look forward to training with you!
Can I observe a class? You may observe the beginner-intermediate class for one session at no charge. It is not necessary to coordinate this with us, please refer to the
schedule for class times. Someone will give you a brief tour of the school and introduce you to Sifu, and/or senior students.
Where is the school? The school is located in downtown Elizabeth City, NC. Please refer to the
driving directions.
When are classes held? Please refer to the schedule for updated class times. You should plan on attending class twice at least week, to start with. Classes last approximately two hours.
What should I wear? You should wear loose clothing, which does not restrict motion, in accordance with the season. We have neither heating nor air condtioning, so if the temperature is severe outside, it will be severe inside. It is the preference of the students to train in this way. A new student should wear a PLAIN WHITE SHIRT. We also have some T-Shirts for sale, but these are optional. You will not be required to purchase any special clothing such as a ghi. Proper footwear is required! Lightweight running shoes should be sufficient.
What should I bring? You should bring a towel, a mouthpiece, and plenty of DRINKING WATER. You will regularly need materials for taking notes during lectures.
How much does it cost?Dues are $25/month, no exceptions, no adjustments, but no contract either. You may attend all sessions up to and below your skill level. The cost is the same, even if you attend class only once. In this way, a student who attends every class is not financially penalized for his or her dilligence. Your balance is due, in full, before your training commences each month.
Who teaches the class?Class is taught by Sifu Lee Gar Leung (Dr. Steven Faber), or the senior student in attendance. New students are instructed primarily by other students, under Sifu's direction and supervision. All students should be prepared to teach what they know to a junior student.
How long does it take to learn the system? It usually takes about 3 years to complete the system, a relatively short time compared to some other systems. This can be attributed to the direct, economic principles of Ving Tsun. Students will train at their own pace. Any and all advancement within the system is done at the sole discretion of Sifu.
I have a health problem. Can I still attend class? If you find yourself asking this question, please consult your physician before proceeding. Because all students train at their own individual pace, you may find that you are able to participate to a limited extent. Having said that, it should be noted that the system is both physically and mentally demanding. Good results will be difficult to achieve without good health.
I still have questions! Please feel free to
contact us with any further questions.
