Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu is a southern style Chinese martial art. This art emphasizes structure and position rather than speed and strength. Best known for its trapping hands, Ving Tsun offers the martial artist a complete system of self-defense. The art is made up of three empty hand forms, the Mook Yan Jong form, as well as two weapons forms. The hand forms are, Sil Lim Tao (Little Idea), Chum Kiu (Searching for the bridge), and Bil Jee (Thrusting Fingers). The Mook Yan Jong form is a series or sets of movements performed on the Mook Yan Jong (Wooden Man). The weapons include the Baat Jam Do (Eight slash knives), and the Luk Dim Boon Gwan (6½ point staff or Dragon pole). A unique aspect of this art is its practice of Chi Sao, or Sticking Hands. This exercise allows the practitioner to develop contact reflexes. Another unique concept is simultaneous defense/attack, allowing the practitioner more efficient/economical techniques.
